The following Texas Holdem odds table highlights some common probabilities that you may encounter in Hold'em. It is not vital that you learn these probabilities, but it is useful to be aware of the chances of certain situations arising.

Calculating Hand Odds and Poker Odds. Calculating hand odds are your chances of making a hand in Texas Hold'em poker. For example: To calculate your hand odds in a Texas Hold'em game when you hold two hearts and there are two hearts on the flop, your hand odds for making a flush are about 2 to 1. It is sometimes useful to know the frequency of each of the different poker hands. In Texas Hold’em, each player is making a hand out of seven available cards. To determine the probability of each hand occuring we can count the number of distinct ways of obtaining each hand and divide by the total number of possible hands. When we are dealt a hand in Texas Hold'em, we don't care whether we get the A first or the K first (which is what we just worked out), just as long as we get them in our hand it's all the same. There are two possible combinations of being dealt this hand (A K and K A ), so we simply multiply the probability by 2 to get a more useful probability. In the case of Texas Hold'em, there's the 2 pocket cards and 5 on the board. This way of working out the probabilities would be the more accurate way - however, just to note, the probabilities worked out on 5 of 52 are practically the same, and far easier to calculate.

Playing poker is about playing the odds. The following list gives the odds for outcomes in Texas Hold’em hands. When you realize how heavily the odds are stacked against you, you may want to rethink going all-in before the flop with two suited cards. Use the odds to your advantage:

• 1 percent (1-in-100): Percentage of time that no player holds an Ace or a King at a table in a 10-handed game

• 1 percent (1-in-100): Percentage of time that if you hold two suited cards, you’ll flop a flush

• 6 percent (about 1-in-20): Percentage of time that five community cards will give pocket suited cards a flush

• 6 percent (about 1-in-20): Percentage of time that you’ll be dealt a pocket pair
